Spelling mistakes on Belgian EID

I got this by RSS, the only reason I read this newspaper (by RSS) is because it is the only one in Belgium with descent RSS support (that I know of).

“Het Laatste Nieuws” writes:

De nieuwe elektronische identiteitskaart bevat schrijffouten. Boven de pasfoto op het kaartje staan drie bogen, waar in vier talen acht keer de naam van ons land gedrukt staat. Maar in plaats van de Duitse schrijfwijze ‘Belgien’ staat er ‘Belgine’. Het Engelse ‘Belgium’ is ‘Belguim’ geworden. Geen dommigheden, maar volgens Luc Vanneste, directeur-generaal van het rijksregister Binnenlandse Zaken, opzettelijke schrijffouten om vervalsers een hak te zetten.

De nieuwe ID-kaart bevat nog een aantal fouten, maar die informatie kan niet vrijgegeven worden. Het systeem van opzettelijke fouten komt uit de VS overgewaaid. (Belga)

Translated to English that would sound like this:

The new electronic identity card (EID) contains spelling mistakes. Above the picture on the card there are 3 lines, and in those lines the name of our country is written 8 times in 4 different languages. Instead of the German “Belgien” the card spells “Belgine”. The English “Belgium” has become “Belguim”. No mistakes, says Luc Vanneste, president of the organisation that creates and distributes the cards, the spelling mistakes were made on purpose to tackle falsifiers.

The new ID-card contains some other errors, but that information can not be published. The idea of putting in errors on purpose comes from the US. (Belga)

On second toughts, it’s impossible to read with the naked eye. It’s just above your picture, but under the “gender”, in those half circles. I doubt you can read that without a magnifying glass

Ontopic: it depends on the light. When you play with the angle (of sight on the card) you can read it with the naked eye.
